World class leadership training

It is only fitting that a leading university offers a prestigious course in leadership. The Laidlaw Undergraduate Research and Leadership Scholarship at the University of York equips self-motivated and ambitious undergraduate students with the knowledge, skills and experience to become leaders in their chosen fields.

The three components of the Scholarship

The scholarship focuses on three areas: an accredited leadership development programme, a supervised research project and networking. The research project will take place over two summer periods and generous funding is provided over this time. The high-quality leadership training and development programme continues over an 18-month period, allowing Scholars to develop strong leadership skills and greater self-awareness. It results in a Chartered Management Institute qualification at Level 5, a highly desirable qualification for future employers. The networking element involves supervision by academics, meeting previous Laidlaw Scholars and building friendships with ambitious, inspiring people.

This year the University of York is looking for 25 proactive and motivated undergraduate students to participate in the 2018 programme. Students must be in their first year of a three year degree or in the first or second year of a four year degree. Selected students must be available to complete a funded research project during the summer of 2018 and the summer of 2019. The University welcomes students of all disciplines, divisions, nationalities and economic backgrounds. Find out more about the application details and dates.
